Dancing Queen

11 May

I am completely guilty of shaking my groove thing alone in my room. Turn the music up as loud as I can and just move to the rhythm. It’s not coordinated or graceful but it helps me cut loose. Not only am I closet dancing queen, but I feel it is necessary to dance pretty much all the time. I have been known to do a little jig in the middle of a crazy rush at work just to help cut the tension.

I think its so freeing to just feel the music. By no means is my dancing very attractive or appealing to those not participating bu WHO CARES?!?! I feel like if you are dancing to impress someone you should just stop. You are abusing the carefree ambiance that dance provides.

Last summer I was at a wedding where my entire family grooved to the music all night long. The picture is of my sister doing the electric slide. I think her version was more of an electric jerk, but that’s what made it so utterly fantastic! Dance is the body’s expression of the soul’s emotion.

School is out FOREVER!

6 May

I just finished my last final of college! Yayyyy

I cannot express the relief and excitement I am experiencing right now! Just imagine a singing dancing fool…. that is me right now.

Don’t get me wrong I have absolutely loved college and have appreciated every moment, but I’m done with school….

Alright I’m going to go and savor this moment at the pool before my bubble is burst at work later tonight.

Also, the guy in the picture completely encompasses my current feelings!

Where has the time gone?

29 Apr

Tonight I’m home with my family. It has been a busy day at our house filled with hairspray, make-up, sequins, corsages, tuxes, photos, and high heels. It’s PROM!

My sisters are currently attending their senior prom. A milestone for any high school student. This is the moment freshmen girls look forward to and boys try to understand. Television, magazines, and movies glorify this as a night of love, adventure, and a rite of passage.

Reflecting on my own senior prom, and knowing that my sisters are coming to the end of high school I can’t help but think, “Where does the time go?”

It seems like just yesterday my little sisters were using the step stool to brush their teeth, and swinging outside with me. Tonight they are beautiful young women!

Campaigns is over!

22 Apr

It has been about two weeks since I have posted, but classes have been dominating my life. I am proud to say that I am now officially done with Advertising 470 Campaigns (better known as my life for the past four months). My group BrickHouse Creations were the first to present, and I was lucky enough to be presenting the first portion!

I have to say that I typically stay fairly cool, calm, and collected, but this particular situation had me a little nervous. Before the presentation we waited for the room to fill up, and during this time my mind began to wander. I remembered a year ago when a friend and I had watched Campaigns presentations for the first time. We both left feeling completely unprepared and terrified. Since that day I had gone through the courses put in the work and earned my place in the class. I calmed down… slightly.

Dr. Morrison came up to our group and informed us that it was time to take our places. While walking to my spot I reminded myself that I was an expert on this topic. I knew the client, the material, and I was completely capable of rocking this presentation.

Now I’m not going to lie, despite my mental preparation I was still nervous, but I kept in control and was proud of my group’s presentation. It slowly sank in as I watched my fellow classmates present their hard work that I was done! The major hurdle I had dreaded for the past 4 semesters had finally been completed. I sat there and looked around at those in the room. I realized that the journey had not been terrifying at all. I have made friends through my classes that I will value for years to come. I know that we as Advertising students at UT have a close bond, and that is something I will always cherish.

The Royal Wedding

16 Apr

As the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton quickly approaches the buzz gets louder and louder. Major news networks are profiling every possible detail; who will be in attendance, how is will compare to Princess Diana’s royal wedding 30 years ago, and of course “the dress”.

Another aspect that has been discussed is how will the young couple adhere to traditional standards that being a royal calls for while also keeping their big day young and special. I found a video on Mashable that featured a video T-Mobile produced of their version of the royal couples entrance. Its a parody of a viral hit from several years ago when a couple had an extremely unique wedding entrance.

Take a look and see what you think. I can only imagine what the reaction would be to royal family walking in shaking what their momma (or “Queen Mother”) gave them.

I for one will definitely be up watching all of the wedding events unfold along with my trusty box of Kleenex!

My Bucket List

9 Apr

Dreams are what we aim for. At the end of the day after all the chaos is falling aside we find comfort in dreaming of the future. Plans we have made for our lives. Whether they are big or small realistic or a bit outlandish they give us something to strive for.  Once a dream has been reached its the most fulfilling feeling imaginable.

I believe that the best way to achieve your dreams is to put them to paper. Its a way of visualizing the future and makes them that much more real. If it can be written it can be done. So here are some of my dreams.

  • Learn to cook
  • Spend the night on the beach
  • Buy a new car… with cash
  • Visit Thailand
  • Learn to dance
  • Find a job I love
  • Spend a month in Europe traveling

1 Billion Stumbles

9 Apr

Several weeks ago I confessed to being a StumbleUpon addict. Apparently I’m not the only one. An article on Mashable announced today that the site is now processing over 1 billion stumbles each month. This is up 200 million just from last month alone.

This site is absolute genius. Advertisements are picked based on the interests users select when making their profile. Finally advertising is not just noise. Consumers can now find new products that are relative to their interests.

I personally will find myself stumbling aimlessly for sometimes an hour. I have begun to utilize the like and dislike options even more and have found so many sites that intrigue me. If you aren’t stumbling already jump on the bandwagon. Start clicking through some of the coolest and most obscure sites that are waiting to be discovered.

Mis Hermanas

2 Apr

I have been looking forward to this weekend for several weeks now. I’m originally from the Nashville area and have not been able to see my family as often as I might like over the past several years. However, this weekend the family has come to Knoxville. My sisters are in town for the night and I couldn’t be happier!

Having a little piece of home is such a great feeling; especially after such a long and taxing week. It’s nice to be able to see them face-to-face and not have to rely on Skype, texting, or Facebook chat. There is just something about sitting around with your sisters and solving the world’s problem.

With that said, there has been enough time devoted to posting today. There is a batch of cheese tortellini waiting to be prepared with my two favorites girls!

Sleep

2 Apr

This past week has been absolutely nuts. The capstone campaigns class for my major had me questioning my own sanity this week. My group has been working diligently all semester and this past Thursday we had to turn in our rough books. After approximately 50 hours in the library over a four day time span the book is now completed.

I have learned this week how essential sleep is. I have been running on fumes and I can tell that my brain is exhausted. Sleep is essential for me to function on a daily basis. So from now on I shall be squeezing cat naps into my hectic schedule.

Skype is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

27 Mar

I have been a Skype user since coming to college. My roommates introduced me to video chatting and I was instantly hooked. I loved being able to reconnect with old friends and stay in touch with my family. Skype allowed me to be there for family events I may have otherwise missed, like birthdays, my sister’s first prom dress, and many other moments.

Recently Skype has grown to mean much more. Over spring break I said good bye to my boyfriend for the next year. He has moved to South Korea for an opportunity to teach English. In the week he has been gone we have Skyped several times. Being able to see his face makes this year and distance seem so much more manageable.

10 years ago email would have been the most efficient form of communication for loved ones around the world. Now their voice and face can be seen for free with a few clicks.

Here is to Skype. Thank you for bringing South Korea to Knoxville!
